Coccodrillo was not Glenn Sestig’s debut as a retail architect. Some of his boutique design’s – Verso, Hieronymous, Rio, Renaissance – belong to the canon of commercial architecture in Ghent, Antwerp and Zurich. His renovation of the iconic shoe shop, Coccodrillo, turned it into a brutalist sculpture in polished concrete, travertine, and dark mirrors. Something never before seen in Antwerp, although the boutique does unmistakably bear Sestig’s signature. The architectural shopping experience is not just pure décor here: it does not stand in the way of commerce.
